As an example of a custom-design product, the photo shows a unique silica core fiber system developed for telescopic detection of 6400 spectra simultaneously, using the same number of optical fibers with total length more than 20 km. The device comprises a number of precisely assembled silica core fiber bundles; it was successfully implemented in the VIMOS-IFU (Visible Multi-object Spectrograph Integral Field Unit) equipment at the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille, France. This unit is the largest of this kind made to date.
